Useful Information

Planning your underfloor heating needs

Fitting the Allbrite underfloor heating system under carpet is as easy as 1,2,3.

Planning your underfloor heating needs is relatively easy, however we have compiled a guide to help you work out your needs for yourself.

Things you will need to successfully plan your needs.

- 1 Sheet of paper (preferably graph paper)
- Accurate internal dimensions of the room
- 1 pencil and ruler

Underfloor Heating - Planning

Should you want to use graph paper you can buy a pad which scales 1:50 or download a sheet from here, if you download it is important that when you print it you do not set it to "fit to page" as this will reduce or increase the scale.

  1. Draw the room on the piece of graph paper ensuring all dimensions are correct, usually 1 large square equals 1 meter square (1m x 1m).
  2. Draw in the heating mats giving allowance for cold leads to be placed around the edges, 80% coverage will provide a primary heat.
  3. If installing under carpet allow an additional 30mm around the walls for gripper rods to be placed.
  4. When planning the heating mats it is advised that the largest mats possible are used i.e. in a room 3.2 x 3.2m (average conservatory) you would use 3 in number 1m x 3m heating mats. See mat sizes below.
  5. When planning mats it is best that all the cold leads are closest to the wall with the thermostat on.

Once you have successfully planned what heating mats you require you will also need to work out the insulation required.

Therm-All for use with laminate, engineered board and carpets is sold in 5m2 and 10m2 rolls. to work out your needs add 10% to your overall square metres and round up to the nearest 5m roll (i.e. 12m +10% = 13.2m rounds up to 15m2.

Easy-Heat is for use with stuck down floors such as tiles and are available in sheets (1.2m x 0.6m [0.72m2]) to work out how many sheets are require add 10% to your overall square metres and divide by 0.72 then round up to nearest whole number.

Flexible tile adhesive (20kg bag)

To stick down insulation 1 bag will cover 6m2 (total metres square divide by 6 then round up to nearest whole number)
To stick down tiles 1 bag will cover 3m2 (total metres square divide by 3 then round up to nearest whole number)
